It was a great day for Radio in the Park and a little fun with my new toy. We had about 20 people show up at Dreyfuss Point and had a few radio’s and antennas setup. Thanks to those who brought snacks and drinks. It was nice to see everyone that showed up and spent the afternoon with us. Watch the video in 4K and enjoy.

Unfortunately, there’s a new piece of ransomware rapidly spreading on the internet. Bill, N5BB, has advised me that Microsoft has even taken the extraordinary step of releasing patches for no-longer-supported operating systems like Windows XP! It looks like the attacks may have stopped for now…temporarily. Make backups! Keep your systems up to date!
Please remember that HamCom and Field Day are coming up soon. Have you volunteered to help the club? We always need a little bit of help to staff our table at HamCom and loads of help to make Field Day a success.

AN UPDATE by Randy Patterson KE5JIT – Special Projects Officer
Many of you have received within the past few hours a message that reads as follows:
Save the date! On Sunday afternoon May 21, 2017 KF5ZBL and KG5EIU will be out at Dreyfus Point at White Rock Lake Park in Dallas TX for Radio In The Park Day. We plan on meeting at 1pm at Dreyfus Point Park (32.836591, -96.714532) . This is an open invite and anybody that wants to enjoy an afternoon in the park is welcome licensed or not. Will be working out some kinks in go-boxes, AREDN nodes, home-built batteries, solar setups, antennas and of course radios and rigs – all in preparation for Field Day 2017. This is the same location that the DARC was at for Winter Field Day 2017. See the map below or look for KF5ZBL or KG5EIU on APRS. Important – this is a SHINE only event, if there is weather or rain this event will be postponed.

Don’t forget to check out our latest club newsletter. We’re still looking for help with our club VE sessions and for preparing for Field Day. Ham-Com is coming up in just a month! Start preparing your shopping list, and remember that the club will need your help to staff our table. Several members are also planning to have a “radio in the park” day on Sunday, May 21st, at Dreyfuss Point (Street View here) at 1:00 PM. Bring your enthusiasm, and maybe a radio and an antenna, and have fun!
There are a few contests and QSO parties in progress tonight. There are QSO parties in Indiana and Delaware, as well as one for the whole 7th call district. That one is complicated, so please check out the rules before you participate.
