Announcements of the Week: 03-20-2019

DARC logo 500X233 no backgroundSorry I’m running late with the announcements! This is a fairly quiet week, except that our next Lecture and Lab is coming up this weekend. We’ll be discussing the Draws Digital Workstation, a tool for interfacing radios with the Raspberry Pi. Don’t worry if you don’t have one! They’re on back-order, and expensive, to boot. But, they’re also very interesting, which is why we’ll be discussing them.

Even the contest calendar is quiet this week. The only contest I’ve heard mentioned is the NA SSB Sprint, which runs for 4 hours this Saturday.

Do you want to have some fun? Help support living history education, show off our hobby, and avoid roaming tyrannosaurs by coming out to the Frontiers of Flight Museum for the Wings of Freedom event. We don’t work…we just have fun with radios. To sign up to help, click here. We’ll be there from about 9:00 AM to, well, some time in the late afternoon. Admission to the museum and parking will be free, but touring the historic aircraft requires purchasing a ticket. We’ll be monitoring the 146.88 repeater during the event, so just give us a call for more information.

Chuck Thompson, N5IAG, has become a silent key. We’ll provide more information about services when it becomes available.

We need your help! Well, sort of. We need you to come out and goof off with us…but in a way that promotes amateur radio. Our club will be participating in the Wings of Freedom Tour at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas on March 16 and 17th. At this event, we don’t work hard; we just show off our radio hobby to the interested visitors at the event while get free admission to the museum. We need help on both days, so sign up now. Admission to the museum is free, but visiting the WW II aircraft requires a fee and riding in them while they fly requires both a significant fee and a reservation.

Don’t forget to check the contest calendar for this week. This weekend will features QSO parties for Oklahoma, Idaho, and Wisconsin, among others.

The next club Lecture and Lab on Saturday, March 23rd, will focus on the “DRAWS Digital Work Station”. You don’t need to have one…but you do have to be interested in talking about it.
