1972: Apollo 17 Lunar Module ‘Challenger’ touched down on the lunar surface, making the last human Moon landing to date. Astronauts Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt would perform 3 Moon walks over the course of their 75-hour stay on the surface. Thanks to the electric powered Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), they also traveled ~22 miles, venturing as far as 4.6 miles from the Lunar Module.
