The Dallas Amateur Radio Club’s annual Pizza Party will take place at our next club meeting. Don’t forget to bring your favorite pizza or side!
The DARC Winter Dinner is coming up on the 11th, too.
Don’t forget to check your email and vote for the 2018 club officers…and don’t forget to sign up to volunteer at the Dallas Marathon if you’ve forgotten to do that. The marathon is Sunday, Dec. 9th, 2018.
The contest calendar has one fun, traditional item, and one exciting new one. The ARRL 160-Meter CW Contest is keeping some hams busy, but others will be taking place in the first real FT-8 contest. As David, KG5EIU, mentioned earlier, participants must upgrade to the latest WSJT-X software (scroll way down on that page) to participate.

Turkey Trot went super-smoothly, but there’s still one more big public service event coming up in our area: the 2018 Dallas Marathon. If you enjoyed the Turkey Trot, please head over and sign up!
Our December 4th meeting will be our annual Pizza Party. Bring your favorite pizza or side dish and share it as we celebrate a year’s worth of accomplishments. If you have any fun, short movies to watch, bring those, too. And don’t forget, our Winter Dinner is just around the corner on December 11th.

The Cowtown Hamfest and ARRL North Texas Section Convention, the original HAMFEST in the Fort Worth Metroplex is scheduled January 18-19 2019.
On-Line Repeater Feed Available
If you’d like to listen to one of our nets without using Echolink, or if you’d like to introduce non-ham friends to the 88 machine, I’ve been working on a resource that can help: a Broadcastify feed. After experimenting for several evenings with a RTL-SDR dongle, I’ve decided that I can get better audio quality by wiring an old HT up to a computer…so that’s what I’ve done.
Be aware that there is 30-40 seconds of latency between the repeater and the feed, so don’t try using this for checking in to SKYNET. Broadcastify also claims to provide archives of recorded audio, but I haven’t tested that feature yet.

Turkey Trot is less than a week away. Sign up on-line or get in touch with Randy, KE5JIT. We need your participation, and you’ll have a great time. You could make this your first public service event, and then graduate right away to working at the “big one,” the Dallas Marathon.
Yep, that’s right: the Dallas Marathon is coming up soon, too. Please sign up for that event; there are lots of great jobs still open. The Marathon was the first public service event I participated in. It might not sound like an easy way to get started, but there are tons of other amateur radio volunteers around to help you out and guide you—it’ll be easier than you think.
And don’t forget: there’s a Chili Cook-Off tomorrow afternoon!
