Winter Field Day 2026

A snowy landscape featuring a road and trees, with a sign indicating 'CANCELED' crossed out, announcing the cancellation of 'DARC WFD 2026'.

The DARC leadership has decided to cancel Winter Field Day plans for 2026 due to the high potential for severe weather in the DFW area, which could make the event unsafe or unenjoyable.

We encourage everyone who is able to participate from their home stations instead. You may operate under your own callsign using the category, class, and location “1H NTX.” Full details and rules are available at https://winterfieldday.org/sop.php

While operating from home, please feel free to join us on our Discord server to share contacts, band openings, and other activity. You can join here: https://discord.com/invite/caJqhjSv

Most importantly, please stay safe and warm this weekend. Keep a radio handy and monitor our 146.88 repeater for SKYWARN and other RACES activations.

Come join the DARC for Winter Field Day 2026 January 24, 2026. This will be a fun indoor event. The DARC will be back at theJohnston Outpost YMCA. Winter Field Day 2026 is January 24 & 25, 2026 but the DARC will only operate Sat Jan 24, 2025, Plan on 11:00am (central time) for setup and we will wrap things up by 6pm that day. WFD2026 will get underway as soon as setup is complete.

The purpose of Winter Field Day is to foster HAM camaraderie, field operation, emergency operating preparedness, and just plain on the air, outdoor fun in the midst of winter for American, Canadian, and DX HAMs.  Don’t let those winter doldrums keep you locked up in the house… get out and play some radio but be safe about it!!   Winter Field Day is the last full weekend in January of each year and runs for 30 hours 16:00 UTC Saturday to 21:59 UTC Sunday.

Popular operating modes include SSB, CW and digital modes – understand that the popular FT digital modes (FT8 and FT4) are NOT valid per the rules for WFD. Please familiarize yourself with the WFD rules for the proper exchange. The DARC will be running as W5FC 2I NTX – this means you don’t even need to be a licensed operator to participate, so come on out and have some fun. No need to bring any radio or gear – DARC will have two radios running (2I) with antennas all setup and ready to use. Will also have some snacks, beverages and tasty “dirty dogs” for enjoyment.
