Field Day 2023 was once again held at the Johnston Outpost YMCA, and the air-conditioned location was a big success: the club was able to keep all 3 radios in operation for the entire event! As other clubs wound down their operations, operators came to visit our site late at night on Saturday and early Sunday morning, providing welcome support. We managed to bag Maryland a few times on Sunday morning, but the San Joaquin Valley eluded us this year.
Although difficult 6-meter conditions meant that my personal statistics were way off, the club had a very strong finish; we made 906 contacts this year, slightly beating last year’s 897. Sunday morning was especially productive with a large number of CW contacts being added to the log. You can see that our operators worked faster and faster as the clock counted down to 1:00 on Sunday, and there were many moments on Sunday morning when CW contacts outpaced both SSB and digital.
I know that we all appreciate the very hard work of our Field Marshal Travis, KI5PGM, and his many supporters. The big, hard-working take down crew was a real pleasure to see on Sunday.
The club will be working to get our official entry turned in as soon as possible. In the meantime, please have a look at our statistics. If you don’t see your call sign in the list of operators, please come out next June and get on the air with the DARC!
