W5FC D-Star Registration Instructions

Please follow the instructions below as closely as possible to ensure your registration may be processed quickly and accurately.

DO NOT REGISTER ON W5FC IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED ON ANOTHER GATEWAY! You need only have your callsign registered once on any D*STAR gateway in order to use the gateway functionality. If you are unsure if you have registered elsewhere please use this site to determine if you are registered and with which gateway.

  • Visit the W5FC D*STAR registration page. You may desire to open this page in another window or tab in order to be able to follow these instructions while stepping through the process.
  • You will receive a certificate error in your browser when visiting the registration page. This is normal and you should take the necessary steps to temporarily accept the certificate.
  • After accepting the certificate the screen will look like this:

  • Click on the “Register” button to proceed.
  • You are now in the registration page:

  • Read “The agreement document” and select “Yes” under “Do you agree?”
  • Using uppercase, enter your call sign in the “CallSign” text box. Use all UPPERCASE for this field.
  • Enter your full name using mixed case in the “Name” text box.
  • Enter a valid email address in the “E-mail” text box. This address will be used to communicate with you if there are issues with your registration. This must be a valid email address that is reviewed on a frequent schedule.
  • Enter a memorable password in the “Password” text box. This must be a minimum of eight characters and may be a maximum of sixteen.
  • Re-enter your memorable password in the “Password confirm” text box.
  • Click the “OK” button.
  • An “Are you sure?” dialog box will popup. Select “OK” to finalize your registration.
  • You will see a page stating “Registration is submitted.” Your registration will be reviewed and approved by the gateway administrator.
  • Return to the registration page in a few days to check the status of your registration using your call sign in UPPERCASE and your memorable password. If the call sign is not yet approved you will receive an “ERROR!! : The registration of CallSign is not approved!”. Please be patient and check again soon.
  • Once the registration is approved you will be able to login to the system and configure your personal information. THIS IS REQUIRED to use the gateway functionality of D*STAR. Select “Personal Information” to view this screen:

  • Click on the checkbox to the left of the number “1”.
  • In the “Initial” text box enter a single space. It is very important that a single space be in the “Initial” field and the text box will appear to be empty once focus is removed.
  • DO NOT check the “RPT” box.
  • In the “pcname” text box, using only lower case and no spaces, enter your call sign or your call sign followed by a dash “-” and the type of radio or device you are using. E.G. nt5ph-dvdongle. Use only lower case in this field and no spaces.
  • Click the “Update” button to submit your “Personal Information”.
  • A dialog stating “processing was completed.” will pop up. Select “OK”.
  • Your registration with the W5FC D*STAR gateway is complete. You may now use any D*STAR gateway.
